Studded Tyres

Studded tyres provide the best possible grip on icy road surfaces. A tyre fitted with metal studs bites firmly into the ice and delivers superior braking performance in the most slippery winter conditions — especially in hard frost, when the rubber compound of a friction tyre is no longer as effective.

In Finland, studded tyres are permitted between 1 November and 31 March, and under special conditions they may be used outside this period. Studded tyres are legally required for certain vehicle types up to certain weight classes in slippery conditions.

When choosing studded tyres, pay attention to the number and placement of the studs — quality tyres typically have 100–130 studs. Also ensure that studded tyres are balanced when fitted, and check the stud length after the first 500 km of driving.
